Two local men lose lives; Hondo PD investigates horrible accident

On Saturday September 7, 2019 shortly after 11:00 pm, the Hondo Police Department was dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle accident in the 2700 block of Avenue U.

Upon arrival, Officers located a White 2002 Ford Mustang GT that had been separated into three pieces as a result of striking a tree and a dumpster in the parking lot of the city Swimming Pool and Baseball Field area, according to Hondo PD.
Officers located the two occupants deceased in the passenger section of the vehicle. Several witnesses indicated that they heard the roar of the engine followed by skidding and a loud crash, according to Hondo PD.
A press release stated the driver of the vehicle was identified as Juan Talamantes (25 years of age) of Hondo and the passenger was identified as Nathan Brickles (25 years of age) of Hondo. Both Talamantes and Brickles were pronounced deceased on scene by Justice of the Peace (Precinct 4) Tomas Ramirez III and released to the Hondo Funeral Home.
According to Hondo PD, the accident is still currently under investigation. The Texas Department of Public Safety-Highway Patrol assisted on scene and will continue to assist with conducting an accident reconstruction report.
Friends and family will hold a candlelight vigil at Memorial Square in front of the Hondo Public Library Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 7:30 pm.
