Local athletes take to the field and the court

“It was so exciting to be a part of our workouts today,” said Warhorse Football Coach Paul Gomez, after local schools kicked off Strength and Training camps with local athletes. Our kids showed up in numbers and it just made you proud to be in this program. We really missed these guys and I know they missed being around each other. I’m very proud of the effort that these boys put in our workouts! We used all precautions and sanitized all areas around us and these kids handled the change perfectly! It was a great day!”

Arabians Coach Jim Sessions added, “We didn’t know what to expect numbers wise, but I think we had a great turnout! We had around 200 kids total and I worked with around 50 just in girls’ basketball! I was super excited to see the kids again!! They seemed really excited to be back in the gym. It was definitely different as we had some new challenges to face. The new regulations went well – the kids did a great job of being patient and understanding and then doing what needed to be done to be safe.”

Lytle Pirate AD/Coach Lori Wilson stated, “We had over 100 kids as a program for boys and girls. The best part was just seeing all their faces since it’s been over two months since we have been face to face with them.”

With so many precautions, workouts are quite different, including the addition of “masks, temperature taking and the toughest is the social distancing,” Wilson adds. “Just constantly reminding them and also the coaches…..When you build relationships with many of these kids, it’s hard to not want to hug them. We are grateful to be back and we will continue to follow the guidelines set forth by the UIL daily”.
