Linda (Rendon) Ornelas went to be with the Lord on May 5, 2021 at age 73. She spent her career dedicated to her love of education. She earned her master’s degree from Our Lady of The Lake in San Antonio and gained many accreditations throughout her career. From teaching, coaching, and administration she treasured the opportunity to enrich the lives of many students. Linda taught in the Devine, Pearsall, and Harlandale School Districts. From teaching 1st graders to coaching Cross Country and Track at Devine ISD, she loved helping her students and athletes reach their goals and shine as they became successful. Over the years she would encounter former students and was always proud to have been part of their lives. The admiration the students would show as they gave her a big hug, and caught her up on their lives, was wonderful to share.
Growing up in her hometown of Pearsall, she always had her Maverick pride. She performed in band, had many lifelong friends, and a family that made her proud. Our family has fond memories of her stories of growing up in Pearsall, going to dances, walking to school, and her dad putting the television in the picture window so the neighborhood kids could enjoy the new technology.
Throughout the years she had many great experiences and enjoyed living life. She played softball for many years, rode horses, fished, hunted, and loved to dance. She also loved to travel, with the Rocky Mountains and New Mexico among her favorites. Historic and scenic places were a source of inspiration and peacefulness, and we had many great trips over the years.
Our family was blessed to have such an amazing person in our lives. She was a wonderful mom, grandma, and wife. In July she was to celebrate her 55th wedding anniversary with our dad, Joe. Our world will be different without her, but we will always be blessed that we had so many years with her. We will cherish all that she taught us and embrace the pure love she had for us. She will forever be in our hearts.

Linda is survived by her husband Joe Ornelas, Jr., daughter Stacy Ornelas Hajduk (Tony), son Joe “Jody” Ornelas III, grandchildren Ethan (Marina) and Erika, sister Gloria (Chuy) Gonzales, and brothers David Rendon, Bobby (Barbara) Rendon, Rick (Juanita) Rendon, and Tony (Nicky) Graham, several nieces and nephews, and other extended family members and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Trinidad “Trine” and Alicia Rendon of Pearsall, brothers Oscar (Chavela) Cubriel and Eddie (Viola) Rendon, and sisters Susie (Chevo) Santos and Diana Rendon.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 13, 2021 from 2:00 PM till 9:00 PM with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 PM at the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel, Pearsall. Mass will be celebrated Friday, May 14, 2021 at 10:00 AM at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with interment to follow in Longview Cemetery.
