Leroy Gorbet

Leroy Gorbet, born May 31, 1922 in Sandia, Texas, died January 25, 2018 at the age of 95.
He was an amazing manufacturing engineer who could figure out how to make anything. With this talent, he worked 42 years for Teledyne Blue-White Dental Instrument Company, the last 21 years as general manager. Leroy also served his country for 30 years in the U.S. Air Force during WWII, the Korean Conflict and through the Air National Guard, rising to the rank of Lt. Colonel and commanding officer of the 182nd Weather Flight, Kelly AFB. He was a founding member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, where he attended until his death, giving endless volunteer hours through the years, as well as being an Honorable Life Member of the Knights of Columbus. Leroy’s favorite thing was his annual deer hunts, which he did until he was 84 years old.
On May 8, 1943, he married the love of his life, Marjorie Annie Tschirhart in Chicago, Illinois while he was attending the University of Chicago. They were blessed with four children and almost 50 years of marriage at the time of Marjorie’s death on January 6, 1993.
In addition to his parents, Daniel Ellis Gorbet and Myrtle May Berry Gorbet and his wife, Marjorie; Leroy was also preceded in death by his brothers, Daniel Gorbet and Everett Gorbet and a sister, Elleene Hoke. He was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him, especially his children, Larry (Ashli) Gorbet of Oak Harbor, Ohio, Gary (Del) Gorbet of Houston, Ronda (Joel Nutt) Gorbet of Kerrville and Wanda Jones of San Antonio; 6 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; Vivian Dillard Gorbet; 6 stepchildren and their families; sisters, Margaret Sandell and Inez Klatt.
Visitation was Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. The Holy Rosary was recited at 9:30 am on Monday, January 29, 2018, followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at St. Louis Catholic Church, 1306 Angelo St., Castroville, TX. Interment with military honors followed at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Presentation Sisters of San Antonio, St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church or the Sandia Cemetery Association.
