Lytle’s Lady Pirates finished their 2021 season on October 26th against Cotulla. The Pirates finished 5-11 and 7th in district and 5-16 overall. “Thank you to all the students, staff, and parents for making huge scarifies and supporting these ladies and the Lytle Volleyball program! We are coming back strong in 2022! Good luck to all those who got to advance and continue the season,” said the very proud Coach Denise Cordero.
On October 22nd, the Pirates headed to West Campos for their last road game. It was “the longest match in the history of Lytle volleyball with a time of two hours and forty minutes. Our Pirates secured the win over the Cougars 5 sets (3-2). Our Pirates won the first set 25-21, lost set 2 and set 3 (23-25, 26-28) and with great teamwork won set 4 and set 5 (25-23, 17-15) with some great serves from Chelsea Gonzalez , Rose Scotello, Marissa Lopez, Alyssa Sprenger, Kaylee Diaz, and Skye Granato and some great digs from Sprenger, Lola Patino, Arianna Garcia, and Amelia Martinez. At one point in the match, the game was so intense, I felt a little light-headed. “We were all at the edge of our seats and thankfully for the girls and their amazing hustle we earned the victory for our last road trip of the season,” said Coach Cordero. The JV Lady Pirates won their game in two sets at 25-19 and 25-9.

Diaz: 2 aces, 5 kills, 16 digs. Hutton: 4 kills, 10 digs. Scotello: 4 aces, 5 kills, 8 assists, 20 digs. Garcia: 1 kill, 23 digs. Gonzalez: 8 aces, 6 kills, 1 solo block, 13 digs. Granato: 1 aces, 5 kills, 1 solo block, 6 digs.
In their final game of the season the Lady Pirates celebrated their two seniors, Chelsea Gonzales and Skye Granato. “Our Pirates fought to the end, but it just wasn’t in the stars. Our Pirates lost to Cotulla in 3 sets, 18-25, 25-27, 19-28. These young ladies are an amazing group of girls. Lytle will be a team to look out for in the next season, as we only are graduating 2 seniors. Keep an eye out for them!” added Coach Cordero. Returning next season will be Sprenger, Aleman, Diaz, Hutton, Lopez, Montalvo, Scotello, Patino, and Garcia.

Good Luck to all of the Lady Pirates as they move into basketball season with Coach Lori Wilson, Tammie Tilley, and Ivan Mason. Their first game will be at home on November 9th against La Vernia.
