Lady Pirate XC 2nd at Poth Invitational

The Lytle Lady Pirates placed second overall in the team standings last Saturday at Poth. Head Coach Gilbert Ruiz was encouraged by what he saw from his runners.
“We had a good look at what we might see in a little over three weeks,” Ruiz said. “If we can stay healthy, we have a good opportunity of getting out of district. But that is a long time from now and there are a lot of things that can happen until then.”
Sophomore Marissa Lopez claimed the individual title for the 2nd week in a row and her teammate Eisabel Guerrero was not far behind to capture 2nd. They along with Natalie Williams 6th place helped the girls to a 2nd place team finish, 4 points behind Karnes City.
Ruiz is praying that his team “can stay healthy and make a run at it again in 3 weeks.”

Staying healthy and continuing to improve are vital going down the stretch run of the season, and into regional.
“I just know that our chances are much better now than they were a month ago and our girls seem to have gotten a burst of energy. I hope that we can maintain that enthusiasm for a few more weeks,” concluded Ruiz.
