Lady Mustangs march past Cotulla

Taty Alvarado makes a catch for the out.

Freshman Pitcher Abi Woodson led the Natalia defense in their 30-3A opener versus Cotulla last week as she mowed down 11 Cotulla Cowgirls scattering 3 total hits by the LaSalle County squad. Offensively, Freshman Taty Alvarado went 3-3-4RBIs-3runs scored as junior Bivi Figueroa also had a nice day at bat going 3-4-3RBIs-2runs scored as the two combined for six of the 13 hits on the day.
As a result, the Lady Mustangs dominated the Cowgirls in what turned out to be a short-played 14-1 run-rule victory at Lady Mustang Field.
“We came out and took care of business on the offensive and defensive side of things,” Coach Tamara Bedford said.
As mentioned, Freshman Woodson was impressive in the 5.0 inning, as she allowed three hits, struck out eleven and allowed just one earned run which came in the top of the 4th inning of play.
Natalia made sure that one run didn’t matter, as they went to work early offensively. Natalia opened things up strong in the 1st, as they used a Trista Vera walk, a Bryana Perez walk, as Bivi Figueroa double, and a two-run homer-run by Trista Vera to give the Lady Stangs an early 4-0 lead.
Natalia scored in each of the remaining three innings, scoring four in the 2nd inning, four in the 3rd inning and two in the 4th en route to their 14-1 victory.
Cotulla scored their lone run of the game thanks to two doubles and a single which proved to be their only offensive fire power of the contest.
