Lady Mustang lifters dominate TSS-UTSA meet

The Natalia Lady Mustang Powerlifting program was impressive for a second straight week, as they were able to dominate the competition at the Texas Strength Systems UTSA Powerlifting Meet last Thursday in San Antonio. Natalia was able to finish with 51 team points, which took the gold as a team out of 11 competitive schools in attendance.
When it came to individual success, Natalia finished with a total of four 1st place finishes, three 2nd place finishes and four 3rd place finishes.
“Our girls were led once again by senior state lifters Sam Sanchez and Julia Owens,” stated Coach Kasey Crowther. “This was only our second meet of the season and the girls continued to show improvements.”
Natalia’s 51 team points led the girls in blue to finish ahead of the following schools: Cotulla-42, Alice-34, Pleasanton-18, Devine-18, Bandera-14, Stacey-5, Blanco-5, Knippa-5, Marion-2 and Canyon Lake-0.
Sam Sanchez had another impressive outing, as she captured the gold in her 105 lb. weight class thanks to a 590 lb. total. Her total included a 225 lb. squat, a 125 lb. bench press and a 240 lb. dead lift.
Owens finished on the heels of Sanchez in the 105 lb. weight class, as she used a 220 lb. squat, a 110 lb. bench press and a 230 lb. dead lift to account for a 560 lb. total.
Angelica Zapata was next in line for the Lady Mustangs, as she captured the gold in the 123 lb. weight class with her 595 lb. total. This included a 245 lb. squat, a 120 lb. bench press and a 230 lb. dead lift.
Dezarae Perez was the champion of the 165 lb. weight class, thanks to her 765 lb. total. This total included a 285 lb. squat, a 165 lb. bench press and a 315 lb. dead lift.
The final gold medal winner was Jasmine Ramon, who won the 198 lb. weight class with a 745 lb. total. Her total included a 320 lb. squat, a 140 lb. bench press and a 285 lb. dead lift.

181 lb. WC: Zita Perez-(3rd place) 235 lb. squat, 130 lb. bench press, 280 lb. dead lift-645 lb. total.
198 lb. WC: Natasha Dunn-(3rd place) 185 lb. squat, 125 lb. bench press, 240 lb. dead lift-550 lb. total.
“We will continue to work the next two weeks to try and qualify as many girls for regional as we can” Crowther said.
Upcoming Meet
This coming Thursday the Natalia Mustang Powerlifters will compete at the Texas Strength Systems Meet in San Antonio at 5:30 p.m.
Next Thursday, January 24th the JV Mustangs along with the Varsity Lady Mustangs will compete at TTS once again as the season continues. Regionals is set for February 28th for the Lady Mustangs.
