JV Warhorses rebound with win over Pearsall

The JV Warhorses have broken their streak of bad luck with a big win over Pearsall. A strong defense was the key to this win in their second district game. Leading 10-5 at the end of the first, the Warhorses continued to stop the Mavericks from getting to the basket and ended the half 21-11. The third quarter was when Pearsall tried to gain control of the game, outscoring Devine 9-7, but the Warhorses turned it around in the fourth by scoring 20 points to Pearsall’s 15. The game ended with Devine on top 47-35.
“We started defensively much better than our previous games. We must continue to lead with a great defensive effort. We shared the ball on offense and it was a good win,” Coach Evan Eads said.
Jose Dozal lead with 12 points, John Schnautz 10, Xavier Contreras and Matthew Madrid each with 7, Hunter Farias and Sage Dozal each with 4, and Christian Gerlach 3. The Warhorses made 10 of their 19 free throws.
They will travel to Carrizo Springs Friday night and then play at home next Tuesday against Crystal City. The JV Warhorses are currently 10-11 overall and 1-1 in district.
