JV Horses shutout power-running Navarro 1-0 in final scrimmage

Devine JV Horses put their foot down defensively shutting out the high-octane Navarro Panthers in last Thursday’s scrimmage at Warhorse Stadium. The Horses “won” the scrimmage one score to nil in what was their final prep before heading into Thursday’s season opener at home against San Antonio Highlands.
JV Defensive Coordinator Evan Eads said, “The coaches challenged the JV all week and they responded with a solid defensive showing. They kept Navarro from scoring, which is a difficult thing to do with the offense they run. To accomplish this all eleven defensive players read the correct player and defeated blocks as aggressively as humanly possible. We had to have several players fly to the ball and gang tackle, and that is what happened. The JV was super aggressive. Richard Hernandez plays middle backer and by the second group of plays he got accustomed to Navarro’s speed to make several tackles. Jason Ramirez got reps as well with the JV at middle backer, and he did not look out of place. We are expecting good things from him based on what he has shown during two-a-days and based on how he played Thursday, he showed he was up for the challenge.”
Luke Friesenhahn scored the scrimmage-deciding touchdown.
