JV Horses roll over Wildcats 23-14

After falling behind 6-0 early in the game, the JV Horses went on to post a 23-14 comeback victory over the Wildcats in Carrizo Springs last Thursday evening. The comeback started on Devine’s first possession with a 47-yard Elijah Sanchez run. Caden Hanson’s extra point put the Horses up 7-6.
Devine’s kickoff pinned the Wildcats at their own two-yard line. The Horses tackled a Wildcat runner in the end zone for a safety, and a 9-6 lead at the 5:02 mark of the first quarter.
Warhorse Jonathan Weinkam 5-yard run, and the two-point run Sanchez gave Devine a score 16-seconds into their next possession.
Devine took a 17-6 lead into the halftime break.
There was not much action scoring-wise in the third quarter but Weinkam got things rolling in the fourth. His 17-yard run put Devine up 23-6 with 1:37 to go in the game.
4th quarter 1:37 Weinkam 17 yard run extra point no good.
Carrizo quickly answered but it was too little, too late as Devine claimed the 23-14 victory.
After the long trip to and from Carrizo, Coach Heath Poppe said, “We didn’t play very well, but I will take an ugly win over a pretty loss any day.”
Very true, Pop. Very true.
