JV Arabians open with big win

The JV Arabians opened their softball season with a big win over Bandera on February 23rd. Winning 10-4, the JV team earned 19 hits off the Bandera pitcher and a total of 10 runs. They also had 6 stolen bases as a team.
Devine opened with three quick outs in the top of the first with two ground outs and a strike out from pitcher Makayla Perez. Bottom of the first, after a ball, Angelina Rios hit a ball deep into right field allowing her to make it all the way around the basses for an in the park home run! Yancy Parson singled, Brooklyn Miller popped out. Brynlea Byrd walked, Janelle Coronado singled, Parson was called out heading home. Allison DuGosh singled and Byrd scored. Devine ends the inning 2-0. Bandera would make a comeback and take the lead in the top of the second but Devine tied the game with Rios scoring on an error. With Parson on 3rd and Miller on 1st, Byrd doubled to earn two RBIs and Devine took the lead at 5-3. Coronado singled and with Byrd on 3rd, DuGosh hit a double to bring in two more runs, 7-3.
Bottom of the 4th, Hannah Matthews doubled, Coronado singled, and then Lindsey Herrera hit a double to left and earns 2 RBIs. Devine’s last run came when Matthews hit a double to short and Herrera scored. Bandera earned one more run in the top of the 5th but Devine won 10-4.
Herrera 2 hits, 2 RBI, 1 run. Rios 2 hits, 1 home run, 1 RBI, 1 run. Parson 2 hits, 1 run. Coronado 3 hits, 2 runs. Miller 2 hits, 1 run. Rivera 2 hits. Hailey Matthews 1 hit, 1 run. DuBosh 1 hit, 3 RBIs. Bryd 1 hit, 1 RBI, 2 runs. Hannah Matthews 2 hits, 1 RBI. Perez 78 total pitches with 56 strikes.
The JV will play again March 16th against Navarro and then district starts against Pleasanton March 23rd.
