JV Arabians busy during break

The JV Arabians have been playing hard basketball during the winter break with practices and by winning two of their four games. Facing Pleasanton, Jourdanton, Poth and Fredericksburg, the Arabians did not relax their game just because of the break.
Pleasanton was no match for Devine on December 10th. Kaydi Yeats led the JV team with 18 points followed by Kendall Marek’s 11 points. Andrea Rios had 8, Joselyn Guajardo 6, and Cece Martinez 2. They shot 5 of 11 free throws and beat Pleasanton 45-36. Q1 14-5, Q2 21-20, Q3 34-29, Q4 45-36.
When the Squaws traveled to face the Arabians on December 17th, they were sent back home with their spirits trampled. The Arabians won 50-12 after holding Jourdanton to 0 points in the fourth quarter. Marek led with 16 points and Yeats had 13. Rebecca Mares scored 5, Rios 6, Brookland Crossland 4, Guajardo 2, Allie Dugosh 2, and Martinez 2. They shot 50% of their free throws. Q1 24-1, Q2 32-6, Q3 41-12, Q4 50-12.
Poth put up more of a fight and pushed the Arabians in a difficult game. Losing by only 2, the teams were tied at the end of the third at 17-17 after the Arabians rallied a come back, but were out shot 9-11 in the final quarter to fall 26-28. Marek scored 15, Emily Cruz 1, Rios 3, Yeats 2, and Martinez 4. They made half of their free throws. Q1 8-7, Q2 8-16, Q3 17-17, Q4 26-28.
“When we played against Fredericksburg, overall we played very well outscoring them in the 1st, 3rd and 4th quarters and played great defense, however turnovers hurt us and turned into points for the other team in the second quarter and we unfortunately did not come out with a win.” Coach Hannah Thompson
Marek 12, Rios 3, Crossland 2, Yeats 2, Dugosh 1, Martinez 3. Q1 6-5, Q2 8-17, Q3 16-24, Q4 23-26.
“With district right around the corner I am very excited and feel that the team has improved offensively, defensively and physically. They have come a long way since the beginning of the season and I can’t wait to see what they can accomplish in district.” Coach Thompson
The JV Arabians will begin district against Hondo at home this Friday night and then in Carrizo Springs on January 14th.
