Joseph “Joe” Edwin Peters, Jr., passed away at his home in La Coste on September 24, 2020 at the age of 65 years. He was born March 19, 1955 in Shamokin, Pennsylvania, the oldest of two sons born to Joseph Edwin Peters and Rose Mary Wasilewski Peters.
Joe graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1973. After high school, he attended San Antonio College, St. Mary’s University and the University of Texas-San Antonio to earn his BS in Biology and Chemistry.
On March 2, 1985, Joe married Nancy Kay Keller at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in San Antonio. They celebrated their thirty-fifth wedding anniversary this past March.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Peters of La Coste; children, Bryan Bippert of Natalia, Amy Bohensky (Michael) of Bronte, Texas, Brandon Bippert (Makenzie) of San Antonio, Ashton Braly (Andy) of La Coste; grandchildren, Daisy Hoffman (Jacob), Bryan Bippert, Jr., Sadie Bippert, Analyn Bohensky, Katelyn Bohensky, Emalyn Bohensky, Hayden Braly and Gentry Braly; great-grandchild, Orion Hoffman; mother, Rose Mary Peters of San Antonio and brother, Michael Peters (Martha) of Aubrey, Texas.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, Joseph E. Peters, Sr. as well as his quadruplet grandsons, Jase, Keegan, Kellen and Drew Bippert.
Spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren were special to Joe. He loved to read and learn new skills, restore old cars, and renovate homes. Joe also loved music, especially the Beatles, the symphony, and the ballet.
Joe worked for UTHSCSA School of Allied Health Sciences and held varied positions there. Some of his positions included assistant professor, lead analyst/program coordinator, senior research database coordinator and most recently he worked for the UT Health Department of Emergency Medicine as a Senior Research Coordinator. He was an Emergency Medical Technician and had memberships in multiple Emergency Medical Service organizations.
Throughout his career, Joe received numerous honors, commendations and awards for his contributions to the community and in the medical field. In addition, he served as Medina County Commissioner for Emergency Services District 1, Medical Support for the National Pony League Association and the Medina Valley Youth Baseball Association, served on the Steering Committee for San Antonio CPR Day and was a Medina Valley EMS volunteer paramedic.
Public Visitation will be Wednesday, September 30, 2020 starting at 5:30 p.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville, Texas. TheHoly Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, immediately followed by the Mass of the Resurrection, at St. Louis Catholic Church. Services will conclude at the church.
