John Anthony Kilhorn

John Anthony Kilhorn, of Castroville, was reunited with his beloved parents in Heaven on January 3, 2018 at the age of 62. He passed away in San Antonio after a brief illness. John was born November 19, 1955 in Castroville to Irvin Anton Kilhorn and Henrica Catrina Heesakkers Kilhorn.
John was a graduate of Medina Valley High School. He enjoyed going to the monthly Friday Night Fever car show in Castroville to display his restored car and visit with other car enthusiasts. John also drove his car in the area parades, proudly representing his Alsatian and Dutch heritage. Although John was not able to serve in the military, his father was a veteran and a member of the American Legion Weiss-Wurzbach Post 460. John would often accompany his father to their various functions. John continued his connection with the Legion after his father’s passing, assisting with their activities, including placing American flags on veteran’s graves in Castroville.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Henrica Kilhorn and his brother, Henry I. Kilhorn.
Survivors include his sister and brother-in-law, Beverly Kilhorn and Preston Newman of Poteet; brother, Robert F. Kilhorn of Castroville; sister-in-law, Darlene Kilhorn of Castroville; nieces and nephews, Ann (Scott) Miller, Roy Anthony Newman (Kathryn Outlaw), Deverie (Jerry) Gallegos, Scott (Trisha) Kilhorn, Toni Lee Ann (Luke) Balencia, April Kilhorn, Katheryne Kilhorn, Robert A.(Solton) Kilhorn; several great-nieces and -nephews, special friend, Marlene Estep and his faithful companion, Jelly Bean.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 10, 2018, starting at 5:00 pm at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, with the Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 pm. Mass of the Resurrection will be Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in John’s memory to the American Legion Weiss-Wurzbach Post 460 Scholarship Fund or the charity of your choice.
