Javelinas last district game for Warhorses in Crystal City

The Crystal City Javelinas provide the last warmup for the Warhorses as Devine prepares to enter the state playoffs next week against an opponent yet to be determined. Devine enters Friday’s game at 7-2 overall and 3-1 in district play. A win gives the Horses a second-place finish.
According to Devine Head Coach Paul Gomez, the Javelinas have had a rough go of this season, but he fully expects the Javelinas to lay it on the line in their home finale.
“Those guys have had it rough with COVID,” Gomez began. “That community has had a lot of cases this year and they are doing the best that they can. We understand and we are praying for them. But those guys will come out Friday night on their field and they will play with full hearts.”
Crystal City is prideful. Do not expect them to simply lay a victory at the feet of the Warhorses.
“Like I tell our boys, we have to match that effort because we have our goals that we want to accomplish too. Crystal has not played many games but obviously the more they play, the better they will get. Our boys will be ready for the challenge! Excited about what lies ahead for us!”
Rough indeed
Crystal City has only played three total ballgames although their record is officially 1-4 overall and 1-3 in district.
Crystal City lost to Zapata 14-7 to open their season on October 3 before beating Bandera 22-19 a week later. Forfeits to Pearsall and Hondo occurred the weeks before the Javelinas lost to Carrizo Springs last week in the Spinach Bowl 41-0.
Kickoff is set for 7:30pm.
