Helen Liddy Vance

Helen Liddy Vance, of Devine, was born September 5, 1913 in East Orange, New Jersey. She passed away February 15, 2020 in Devine, Texas at the grand age of 106 years, 5 months and 10 days. She was one of three children born to Clarence Liddy and Lillian Loeffler Liddy.
Helen married Joseph “Joe” Albert Vance at her home in New York in 1936. Their marriage was blessed with three children. Joe passed away on July 4, 1978.
Helen was raised in Brooklyn, New York and also lived in New Orleans, Panama (where she met her husband) and Cuba. She lived many other places while her husband, Joe, was playing professional baseball.
Helen was an avid baker and cook. During the Great Depression, she sold pies to help make ends meet.
She was a member of the Christian Mother’s Society at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Devine. She was also a member of Mothers Against Drunk Drivers.
Survivors include her son, Dr. Joseph F. Vance and his wife Carrol of San Antonio; daughter, Mary Virginia Daks of New York City, NY; grandchildren, Jennifer Huie (Jack) of Ft. Worth, Jaret Lozano (Sarah) of Schertz, Chilton Vance (Suzanne) of Cibolo, Vanessa Morrison of Whitney, Amy Kennedy Stein (Zach)who was raised by Helen, of Austin, Jonathan Vance (Toni) of Ft. George Meade, MD and William Daks (Jessica) of New York City, NY and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Helen was an elegant lady; the best of the best, and will be missed by all that knew her.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph Albert Vance; son, John Edward Vance; brother, Clarence Liddy; and sister, Virginia Cuellar.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 20, 2020 starting at 6:00 pm at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, with the Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 pm. Mass of the Resurrection will be Friday, February 21, 2020 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Devine. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Devine, Texas.
