“A 2015 Kia passenger car driven by Rhandee Elizabeth Lewis, 25, of Hondo was traveling south on SH 173 (towards Devine) at approximately 8:25 am on Friday, January 26, 2018. A 2016 Ford truck driven by a 40 year old man of Devine and carrying two passengers, a 36 year-old woman and a five-year-old female were traveling north (towards Hondo) on SH-173. Ms. Lewis passed another vehicle when it was unsafe to do so by entering the northbound lane. Her car struck the truck head-on and Ms. Lewis died as a result of the crash” according to Department of Public Safety sources.
All three occupants of the truck were transported to University Hospital in stable condition.
The accident happened on State Highway 173 only 3.5 miles south of Hondo in Medina County. It is believed Lewis was on the way to work and the family in the truck were on their way to the Medina County Stock Show to watch family members and friends participate in the show.
The investigation is ongoing and all contributing factors are not yet known. The Texas Department of Public Safety would like to remind all drivers to drive the speed limit, obey traffic control devices, and minimize distractions.
“Rhandee was a true example of a Christian,” said a family friend, “She talked the talk and walked the walk. She loved everyone and everyone that met her, loved her! She is truly one of a kind!”
” The number of people at Rhandee’s celebration of life is just one of many examples of how many lives she has touched! Rhandee loved her family and would do anything for them. She even continues to show her love and that she will always be there for her brother Rhody even though she is a heavenly angel now! Her presence was always a blessing and even a stranger would know they were loved by the beautiful smile she always carried on her beautiful face, she said.”
From the looks of the truck it is amazing the young family survived this head on collision.
