Mrs. Gloria Miriam Gaytan Martinez passed away at her home in Castroville after a lengthy illness on February 27, 2018, with her family by her side at the age of 53.
She was born June 20, 1964 in San Antonio, one of three children of Abram and Gloria Garza Gaytan. Gloria graduated from John Jay High School in 1982 and Texas A & M University-San Antonio in 2003. She was a much beloved teacher, beginning at Medina Valley ISD and then at Northside ISD.
On February 21, 1987, Gloria married Todd Michael Martinez at Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church. They were blessed with thirty-one years of marriage, two daughters and two grandsons.
Survivors include her loving husband, Todd Martinez, of Castroville; daughter and son-in-law, Hilary and Cade Griggs and their sons, Cohen Griggs and Rhett Griggs, of Castroville; daughter, Gabriela Martinez of San Angelo; parents, Abram and Gloria Gaytan of Mico; brother, Anthony Gaytan of Mico and sister, Sonya Martinez of San Antonio.
Visitation was Monday, March 5, from 4 to 5:30 pm at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, followed by the Holy Rosary that evening at 7:00 pm at St. Louis Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection was Tuesday, March 6, at 10:00 am at St. Louis Catholic Church. A private family Committal Service will be held at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in Gloria’s memory to Northwest Crossing Library Fund.
