Gilkey moves on to State for Mustang Cross Country; Natalia finishes 7th overall

The Natalia Mustangs put on a great showing at Monday’s Regional Cross Country Class 3A Championships in Corpus Christi. Noah Gilkey advanced as an individual runner to Round Rock with a 15th place finish overall.
Things got scary for Head Coach Kim Lane, Gilkey, and the Mustang faithful as Gilkey neared the finish line in third place. Coming down the stretch, Gilkey did not appear to be his normal running fluid self and collapsed multiple times before reaching the finish line.
Head Coach Kim Lane stated Gilkey fell and looked disoriented as he tried to gather himself before falling again. He was in third as he approached the line, but still finished 15th overall to qualify for the state meet.
“I am so proud of all the boys,” Lane stated. “They improved so much over the season. I could not be happier.”
