George Lloyd McAllister

George Lloyd McAllister (aka “Mr. Mac”) passed away on Palm Sunday March 24 surrounded by his family. George was born in Jourdanton, Texas on July 26, 1928, to Letha Slater McAllister and James Walker McAllister. George grew up with seven siblings and of those seven, two are still living.


He graduated from Devine High School in Devine, Texas in 1947. He worked for two years after graduating from High School, to make enough money to pay for part of his college education. After those two years of work, he enrolled at Texas A&I in Kingsville, where he worked three jobs to put himself through school. He graduated in 1952 with a BS in Agricultural Education. He later received his master’s degree from A&I.
When George graduated from college, he married his college sweetheart, Grady Ann Swift of Laredo, Texas. That same year, he got his first job teaching vocational agriculture in Laredo, Texas. Two years later, George accepted the vocational ag teaching position in Jourdanton, Texas. George taught for a total of 37 years, including the two years in Laredo.
George was blessed with three children, Rachel Hurley (Ross) of Pleasanton, Robin Chandler (Galen) of Canyon, and George Russel McAllister (Jana) of Waxahachie. George is most proud of his four grandchildren, Evan Hurley (Ivy), Cody Chandler (Lindsay), Erin Lindsay (Landon), Emily Thornburg (Andre). George was recently blessed with two great-granddaughters, Ava Rae Lindsay and Kinslee Ann Thornburg.
George was an outstanding teacher in his field and respected by many. In 2022, he was inducted into the Texas Vocational Agricultural teachers Hall of Fame. He was a wonderful father figure and mentor to three generations of students at Jourdanton High School.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm, on April 20, 2024, at the Jourdanton Methodist Church.
