Devine’s freshman team defeated the Navarro Panthers 2 touchdowns to 1 in their scrimmage last Thursday evening. It was the team’s final tune up before they take on the Boerne Greyhounds at Warhorse Stadium at 6:00 pm Thursday night.
“I thought that the freshmen performed well at the scrimmage,” stated Bart Oropeza. “Justin Contreras scored 2 rushing touchdowns and Colin Dishman did a great job at the quarterback position. Colin completed 2 out of 4 passes. Xavier Garcia carried the ball big gains. I was very proud of the team’s overall performance. We will continue to work hard every week.”
Two-a-days can be a culture shock for the incoming freshmen. Starting before the actual school year begins and being on the practice field for longer periods during the day is a change from their Colt years of football. They have made it through the toughest part of the season as from here on out, it is three practices then time to tee it up for a real game.
