Excuse the presumptiveness of putting the Arabian freshman record at 14-1 as Devine was 13-1 before going into last night’s District 29-4A affair against the Lady Mavs of Pearsall. However, this squad has been on a tremendous roll this season as their only loss was against a JV squad from D’Hanis.
vs Patriots
“It is always tough to not relax in non-district games like these,” said Coach Kara Stacy. “However, we did a great job of staying focused and executing our game plan.”
“Executing a game plan” may have been the understatement of the century as the Arabians did not even break a sweat in their two-set dismantling of San Antonio Patriot Homeschool. Devine won the first set 25-2 and cruised almost as easily in set two 25-11.
“A big shout out to Brooke DuBose who served the majority of set one and ended up with 12 aces.”
Kyrie DuBose led Devine with six kills while Kylie Monreal chipped in five. DuBose and Monreal also led the squad with five assists as well.
vs Somerset
Maybe the pure dominance over FEAST played a little role in Devine’s early match problems against district foe Somerset last Friday as the Arabians pulled out a first-set 25-23 nailbiter.
“We struggled to get into a good rhythm early against the Lady Bulldogs. We seemed to have little energy and we committed too many unforced errors.”
Devine got things rolling like they are used to in the second set, however, as they cruised to the 25-13 match-clinching win.
“We did a much better job playing our game in the second set. We got up quickly and maintained a good lead throughout the match.”
Kyrie DuBose led the team with five aces and Kylie Monreal paced the way with six assists. Brooke DuBose chimed in with four assists. Khloe Solis and Calleigh Schneider were each credited with two digs.
The Arabians bumped their record to 4-0 in District 29-4A after this win, and, more than like, made it 5-0 after the Lady Mavs matchup last night.
