Firefighters extricate, rescue Bigfoot man trapped in rollover last week

On Thursday, December 6 around 8:53 am first responders rushed to the scene of this rollover accident just south of Devine.

After hitting a slick spot, the vehicle reportedly slid out of control and the driver, 93-year Calvin Boyd of Bigfoot, became trapped inside his vehicle.
It happened on FM 3176 just before the intersection with East FM 462 between Devine and Bigfoot. Two passersby Landon Geyer and Daniel Holder stopped to help when they saw the truck lying on its side, contacting 911 and staying with the driver until firemen could arrive to extricate him.
The vehicle landed on its side, with the driver’s side up, and the driver, fell from his seat to passenger side, where he became trapped.
“We cut out the windshield, then cut off the roof to get him out,” said volunteer firefighter Denise Woody with Bigfoot VFD.
Responders blocked off traffic at FM 3176 allowing air life to land on the roadway, and the man was airlifted by Methodist Air Care. Thankfully, according to a friend of the family the driver is okay and back home in Bigfoot this week.
Responding with Bigfoot VFD were Bobby Grubb, Barry Jetton, Dennis Woody, Denise Woody. Moore VFD volunteers responding were Chief JD & Stephanie Earls, Justin Ross, and G.Willis. Frio County SO, Frio Co EMS, Devine EMS, DPS, and Methodist Air Care also responded.
