Fire knocks out main power line for 4 hours, closes 471

The driver of an eighteen wheeler was headed north on I-35 and decided to pull off at Love’s Truck Stop in Natalia.

“He heard a popping noise as he came over the overpass and came to the stop sign, and when he looked in his rear view mirror he saw his trailer was on fire,” said Natalia Police Chief Gilbert Rodriguez. “So he parked on FM 471 and unhooked his trailer and it just so happened that the trailer fire was right underneath a power line…the main line coming into Natalia.”
The fire knocked out power for about 4 hours from around 4 am until after 8:15 am. FM 471 was closed down until around noon when the massive cleanup could be finished.
