Ernest John Kroeger, Jr.

Ernest John Kroeger, Jr of Lytle passed away October 25, 2017 at the age of 67. He was born November 16, 1949 in Castroville, TX.
This was the passing of a long and accomplished life of a true citizen. During his lifetime Ernie was a soldier who served honorably in the Vietnam War, a detective with the San Antonio Police Department for 31 years, as well as a volunteer for the City of Lytle where he could be found either working with his brothers from the VFW, being a citizen on patrol for Chief Richey Priest, or working to better the lives of animals at Lytle Animal Care and Control. He also was great at being Papaw.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest John Kroeger, Sr., and his maternal grandparents William and Mary Keller, and his paternal grandparents Gustav and Catherine Kroeger.
He is survived by his wife Betty Kroeger of Lytle, TX, his son Brian Kroeger and wife Karron Kroeger, granddaughter Audrey Kroeger of Kingwood, TX. He is also survived by his mother Hortense Kroeger of La Coste, TX and his sister Elaine Kroeger of La Coste, TX. He is also survived by his brother and sister in law Steve and Jeanie Habarka, and niece Shea Redden, husband Trent, children Clayson, Austin, and Peyton and numerous cousins.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Lytle Animal Allies, 210 CR 6877, Natalia, TX 78059. Lytle Animal Allies is a 501c3 nonprofit who supports the efforts of Lytle Animal Care and Control. Ernie was a big part of their support.
Visitation was held Sunday, October 29, 2017 from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm. at the Hurley Funeral Home in Lytle, Texas. Chapel Service was held Monday, October 30, 2017 at 10:00 am. at Hurley Funeral Home Lytle, Texas with internment following at Lytle Community Cemetery.
