Enter the Pat & Kitty DuBose Memorial Christmas Light Competition for HANK’S Kids

It’s time to gear up for the annual Pat and Kitty DuBose Memorial Christmas Light Competition for HANK INCs local Medina County foster kids! The competition is open to the cities of Devine, Natalia and Lytle as well as the surrounding rural areas. However, you MUST submit a photo of your light display if you live outside City limits and tell us a little about it.
Your “entry fee” is simply a donation to HANK INC (helping local foster kids). You can enter for a donation of $1 or $100…it’s totally up to you.
All entry money is donated directly into helping to local foster kids, and Medina Electric donates an additional $50 for everyone that enters (up to $1,250).
Devine Hospice Thrift Store has pledged $5,000 as part of this campaign fundraiser that will go directly to HANK’s kids. They challenge other local businesses to match their pledge as well and help this awesome organization.
Prizes
The Grand Prize is $500 donated by DJ Carlson Bust n Burn, and second place is $250 donated by Medina Electric Coop. Several trophies are also given out for various category winners such as “Winter Wonderland Award”, “Most Comical,” “Most Creative,” and “Silent Night” award for the most touching Nativity scene.
But this friendly competition isn’t really about winning….it’s about lighting up our county to light up the lives of local foster children. In fact, almost every single year since this competition started, the grand prize winners were so touched by Hank Inc’s doings that the $500 prize was donated right back to this organization — which is in our opinion–one of the absolute greatest organizations in Medina County.
Judging
Don’t have your lights up yet? That’s okay…go ahead and turn in your entry. We do not drive around and judge lights until the weekend before Christmas.
Lights will be judged December 18-19th (Friday and Saturday) so make sure you leave the lights on that night from 6:30-11 pm please.

Pat and Kitty DuBose.

The cause and the memorial
This 5th annual Pat and Kitty Dubose Christmas light challenge is held in honor of the former Devine News publisher/editor whom loved Christmas and loved making it special and wonderful for all around them. They also supported the community’s needs at every turn, and we know they would be so proud to see that their tradition of kindness has helped so many children in our area and brought a needed smile to their faces.
Hank Inc, founded by John and Debbie Southwell of Hondo, makes sure that every foster child in Medina, Uvalde and Real County gets a wonderful Christmas gift and covers the cost of any need that the State doesn’t. They also operate two community foster homes in Devine and Hondo so that children can stay close to home with their siblings during a very trying and scary time in their lives instead of being sent off to far away foster homes all over the State.
How to Enter
Mail in your entry to The Devine News, PO Box 508, Devine, TX 78016. Please make checks with your entry fee donation payable to HANK Inc. Or you can register online at www.Devinenewsmembers.com
