Don I. Lawrence was born January 28, 1938 in San Antonio, Texas. He passed away on June 16, 2017 with his family by his side at his home in San Antonio at the age of 79 years.
Don was one of three children born to Ivan and Mary Ruth Harris Lawrence. In 1956 Don graduated from Jefferson High School. He continued his education at San Antonio College and Trinity University. Don then served in the U.S. Army for two years.
On November 21, 1964 he married Phyllis Jungman at St. Gertrude’s Catholic Church in Kingsville. They were blessed with 52 years of marriage, two children and two grandchildren. Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved the Dallas Cowboys. He loved to barbeque and was an excellent cook. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and dancing to country and polka music. Don was known to be a sharp dresser, even wearing his best clothes to barbeque.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Al Bishop and parents-in-law, Bernard and Connie Keller Jungman.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Lawrence of San Antonio; son, Troy Lawrence of San Antonio; daughter, Renee Lawrence Seitz of Helotes; grandsons, Evan Seitz and Austin of Helotes; sisters, Marilynn (Dan) Dierschke of Austin and Jerriene “Jerrie” Bishop of San Antonio.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 29, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, with the Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 pm. Memorial Mass of the Resurrection will be Friday, June 30, 2017 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery.
