The Lytle Lady Pirates volleyball team had their final two non-district matches last week, as they continued to prepare for the start of 27-3A district play. The Lady Pirates are currently 2-7 and will have to continue to work hard against tough district teams.
Tuesday, August 24, the Lady Pirates hosted the Marion Lady Bulldogs in their home opener. While Lytle got off to a slow start, they continued to improve throughout the match against a tough Marion team. When the dust had settled, Lytle fell in three sets: 11-25, 20-25, 25-27. Rose Scotello led the way for the Lady Pirates with four aces, six digs, and five kills. The girls continued to learn during the match, which should provide the team with success once district play begins.
Cameron Hutton 8 digs, 2 solo blocks, 1 double block. Chelsea Gonzalez 3 kills, 2 double blocks. Scotello 4 aces, 6 digs, 5, kills, 1 double block. Alyssa Sprenger 7 digs. Elysa Aleman 7 assists.
The Lady Pirates played again on Friday, August 27 at Fort Sam Houston, taking on a very athletic and talented Cole Cougar team. Lytle was missing one of their starting players and struggled with making the adjustments necessary to compete with a team such as Cole. The Lady Pirates ended up falling to the Cougars 13-25, 11-25, 14-25, ending their non-district campaign with a 2-7 record against some very strong opponents. Marissa Lopez led the way with four kills, one ace, and 12 digs.
Gonzalez 1 ace, 2 kills, 5 digs, 1 solo block. Scotello 7 assists, 7 digs, 3 kills. Granato 1 ace, 2 kills. Martinez 1 kill, 5 digs. Aleman 5 assists, 4 digs, 1 kill.
These tough matches will only strengthen the girls as they begin the long 16-game district season that begins Tuesday, August 31, when the Lady Pirates take their show on the road to Karnes City in their district opener. Freshman will play at 5:00pm, JV at 6:00pm and Varsity is scheduled for 7:00pm. Come on out and cheer on your Lady Pirates!
