DHS Student of the Month: Savannah Parker
School and Community Involvement:
My involvement in school and the community is a huge part of my life. I stay active by playing sports, which not only keeps me fit but also teaches me teamwork and discipline. My time in the FFA gave me a chance to develop my skills of leadership and learn more about agriculture, which is really important to me. I volunteer whenever I can, either helping out at events or participating in community service projects. These experiences have helped me build strong connections and make a positive impact within my community.
Future Plans
In the future I plan to take flight classes and acquire my private pilot’s license. Once I have my license, I aim to work for a company like UPS or Amazon, delivering packages. This career path excites me because it combines my passion for aviation with the opportunity to play a crucial role in logistics and delivery services. I’m looking forward to the adventure and responsibility that comes with being a pilot.
DHS Student of the Month: Tate Wisenbaker
School and Community Involvement:
This year I was considered an informal leader of the Varsity Football team. Coach called me the “voice of the team” since I primarily led the team in prayer during practices and games. I was also asked to deliver the prayer at our community pep rally held at the golf course last week. Coach Gomez has recognized my contributions and awarded me the DJ Carlson Memorial Scholarship a few weeks ago.
Jr. Year Varsity Football: All District 2nd Team- Offensive Tackle, All District Academics 2023.
I played on the JV squad my freshman and sophomore years as a Tight End and Defensive End.
I am also part of the DHS Robotics team and taking on the lead this year as Safety Officer. We are preparing for our upcoming competitions in a few months.
I am also in the welding class at DHS and obtained my welder’s certificate last year and hope to obtain additional certifications this year. I have gained experience with 3D printing and CAD Software as well in the Engineering pathways at school.
I’m also very involved with my church at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. I am one of the founding members of the Youth Ministry Group and we host different events each month. I have been an assistant Faith Formation (CCD) teacher for the past four years. I was the co-director of the Teen ACTS Retreat held this past summer and it look like I will be the director of this upcoming year’s Teen ACTS Retreat. I had the great honor of playing the part of Jesus in The Passion play this past spring at St. Joseph’s. If you saw pictures in the Devine News of a blood-soaked teenager suspended from a cross on the front page, that was me−it was a truly humbling experience.
I have also volunteered with Mission Devine for the last four years or so, working primarily with Sylvia Hawkins and her yard crew. I have helped with the Food Bank food distributions a few months with the rest of the Devine Warhorse Football Teams.
Future Plans:
My long-term goal is to attend Texas A&M University and study structural engineering. I have not fully decided on my next steps as we enter college application season. I am leaning towards attending Texas A&M University-San Antonio for one year then transferring to the main A&M Campus. My next steps should be solidified in the upcoming months.
Thank you very much for recognizing me as one of the Students of the Month, I truly appreciate this award and I will continue to find ways to serve my community and bring the word of our Lord to others.
