If you are a parent or a guardian of a Devine High School student-athlete, you are encouraged to attend Athletic Director Jim Sessions’ annual Parent Meeting in the high school gym August 7. The meeting begins promptly at 6:30pm.
Coach Sessions covers a variety of topics that are beneficial to all sports participants and parents. While every single word of the athletic handbook will not be enunciated, it is vital for coaches and parents to be on the same page as a new school year begins.
The meeting is meant to provide valuable insights into all aspects of DHS’ sports programs by outlining expectations of athletes and parents, including academic standards, behavior, and commitment levels.

A majority of parents who have attended past sessions by Coach Sessions have left with a better understanding of what their child’s athletic journey is supposed to look like, are able to understand the rules and regulations of the athletic program along with those of the UIL, and most importantly, be able to communicate effectively with coaches and administrators.
There will not be breakout sessions at the conclusion of the general meeting. However, parents will be provided the opportunity and are encouraged to meet with their child’s individual coaches to ask questions and/or clarify any concerns to hopefully ensure a positive and rewarding season is had by all involved.
Parents engaging in meetings such as these demonstrate your support and involvement in your child’s endeavors, which has proven to significantly impact a student-athlete’s athletic and academic success.
