Towels, towels, & more towels needed for Arabians & Warhorses

Devine players finally have the opportunity to line up against someone in a different colored uniform as Cotulla makes their way to Warhorse Stadium this Thursday for the first scrimmage for each program. Start time is 5:30pm.
August 22, the Warhorses parachute into Geronimo for their second and final tune-up against Navarro.
Devine officially kicks off the 2024 season August 30 at Warhorse Stadium against Randolph at 7:30pm. Parent’s Night festivities proceed the ballgame.
For the next week and a half, however, scrimmages and the purpose they serve to both players and coaches dominate round-table talk and water cooler conversations.
For coaches, scrimmages provide the opportunity to evaluate talent in a game-like environment, offering insights that practice alone simply cannot provide. Coaches can assess player skills, decision-making, and adaptability under pressure.
This real-time evaluation is crucial in determining the best fit for each position, developing game strategies, and identifying areas needing improvement.
For players, a scrimmage is a chance to shine as it gives them the opportunity to showcase their abilities, demonstrate their understanding of the game, and earn their spot on the team. It is especially vital for those “bubble-type” players that are trying to separate themselves from others on the depth chart and those trying to show they belong under the Friday night lights.
Players are given the chance to prove themselves in a competitive setting, build confidence, and gain valuable experience, even if for some it is for just a very few snaps.
These upcoming scrimmages against Cotulla and Navarro are a big, foundational step in the progress and evaluation of each individual player as well as the continuation of building a strong, cohesive, and competitive team.
Towels, please
Per UIL, admission cannot be charged for entry into any high school scrimmage, regardless of the sport. However, there is nothing in writing that says high school programs cannot plead for towels that benefit all student-athletes across the board.
The Devine vs Cotulla scrimmage serves as the lone home scrimmage this season, which in turn becomes the Annual Towel Scrimmage as fans are highly encouraged to bring mostly bath-sized towels as a donation at the gate.
Hand towels and wash clothes are also appreciated, but bath towels—especially over-sized ones—are most desirable.
Towels donated benefit both Warhorse and Arabian athletes that participate in any of the sports offered at DHS.
With budget crunches continuing, towels are not the most high-profiled item on anyone’s wish list, but they are extremely necessary day in, day out.
If able to contribute, Devine athletes will be grateful each time they step out a hot shower after a grueling practice or after a ballgame.
