Devine Class of 1976 celebrates 45th reunion

Devine Class of 1976 – 45th Reunion: From Bottom Row on Up: Don Beck, Karen Howard Muennink, Larry Sultenfuss, Dean Armstrong, Cynthia Whitaker Sultenfuss, Don Darnell, Gary Forester, Elizabeth Word Adkisson, Sherry Davis Moore, Debi Winkler Shurtleff, Jim Hundley, Alvin Nixon, Cindy Magnus Taylor, Kathy Anderson Rossetti & friend Ron. Spouses, guests, and classmates from other classes also attended.

Class Reunions are special because they are usually held only on special anniversary years and with usually just their classmates & guests attending.
But not the Devine Class of 1976! They have held 27 reunions in the past 45 years!! After they held their 5th, 10th, & 20th reunions, they just kept on meeting on the last Saturday of July since 1996, except for the 2020 covid year! That is a total of 24 of their reunions in the past 25 years! That just might be a record around here!
Cynthia Whitaker Sultenfuss ’76 said, “At the 20th reunion in 1996 our classmates wanted to keep meeting each year just to visit, have BBQ, and enjoy a casual get-together. So, we did just that! Each July we invited classmates and many other people who we went to school with, and it became the Class of ’76 & Friends Reunion!” Cynthia & her husband Richard ’72 have hosted the gathering at their home just outside of Devine for many years and have no plans to slow down!
The Class of ’76 is a great example of the special ties that bind us together from our school years in Devine. This class is by no means the only class that has reunions, but their longevity of nurturing their longtime school friendships is inspiring and heartwarming for us all.
So don’t wait until the next anniversary year rolls around or wait until the class officers plan something; just start talking it up with classmates and things will fall into place. You don’t have to have a fancy gathering to make it a reunion, you just need your people!
