The number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in Atascosa County and Frio County both jumped appreciably over the last week as Texas continues to struggle with a surge of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Atascosa County
Confirmed COVID-19 cases in Atascosa County nearly doubled over the past week, jumping from 165 on July 6 to 316 on July 13.
According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, there are currently 201 active cases in Atascosa County, and 113 patients have recovered.
The DSHS also reported that 3,011 COVID-19 tests have been administered in the county as of July 12.
Walk-up testing is scheduled to be held at St. Andrew’s Church, located at 626 Market St. in Pleasanton, on Saturday, July 18.
According to information posted on the county’s Emergency Management Facebook page, additional testing sites in the county that require appointments include Quality Urgent Care at 2106 W. Oaklawn Rd. in Pleasanton; the Atascosa Health Center at 310 W. Oaklawn in Pleasanton, and Dr. Michael McFarland’s office at 1105 Oak St. in Jourdanton.
Frio County
Frio County also saw a large increase in confirmed cases, rising to 295 cases on July 13, up from 191 on July 7.
According to the county’s Lifeline Dashboard, 177 cases are active, and 118 patients have recovered.
There are also 62 confirmed cases among detainees in the GEO detention center in Pearsall, an increase from 51 last week. Fifteen sick detainees are currently in isolation or being monitored.
The DSHS reported that 1,277 COVID-19 tests have been administered in the county as of July 12.
