Colt 8th grade hoops splits with Hondo

The Devine Middle School Colts tipped off their 2021 season with a pair of games in Hondo prior to Thanksgiving. The Maroon team defeated the Owls 40-38, while the Gold team fell short by a final score of 22-26.
Maroon
The Maroon team had four players score six points or more in their two-point victory, led by Mason Beaver’s seven points. Ray’sean Beaver, Cecilio De La Garza, and Tyler Hinnant each scored six points apiece.
Tanner Davis and Mario Vicented each chipped in four points, Karson Ray contributed three points, and Christian Monreal and Jackson Hagdorn each had two points. Mason Saunders also contributed in the season-opening victory.
Devine trailed 9-7 after the first quarter and 18-17 going into the halftime break. The Colts leap-frogged the Owls 28-27 going into the final quarter before holding on to close out the 40-38 win.
Gold

The Owls had a big third quarter scoring 12 points including two three-pointers. Devine was held to two points, and fell behind 22-17 going into the final quarter.
Devine outscored Hondo 5-4 in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough as they lost their season-opener 22-26.
