“Charging for dispatch sounds like a plan.”

For the week ending Sunday, May 26th … Officers handled 40 calls for service (that’s on the low side) and conducted 81 traffic stops. Of those stops, 49 were citations, and 32 were warnings.

It was a nice week, with only one property crime reported! H.E.B. Plus reported the theft of a floral arrangement valued at $90. Nothing says I love you like a bouquet of stolen flowers.
It looks like we had four arrests last week. #1 – A traffic stop resulted in a 16-year-old male being cited for drug paraphernalia and released to a guardian. #2 – A traffic stop on Benton City Road for impeding traffic resulted in the arrest of a 56-year-old male for D.W.I. #3 – A traffic stop for speeding resulted in the arrest of a 47-year-old male for an active warrant for theft out of Bexar Co. #4 – A traffic stop for an expired vehicle registration resulted in the arrest of a 39-year-old female who had an active warrant out of Bexar Co. for possession of a controlled substance. During the arrest, Heroin was found in her vehicle, which resulted in her being charged with possession of a controlled substance. She was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail.
Our new phone system is up and running, and as in the past, you can leave a voicemail. It will send the command staff an email as well. Please remember that our local number, 830-709-0277, is an administrative line only. If you need a police officer, call 830-769-3434 Option #1. The friendly and professional folks will answer your call at the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office. They have direct radio contact with our officers, and they provide dispatch services to our agency at no cost. I look at a lot of budgets, and there are a lot of places where the local police departments pay for dispatch, so we are blessed. Hopefully, the Atascosa Co. Judge doesn’t read this and says to himself, “Charging for dispatch sounds like a plan.” If you have an emergency, call 911.
Not too much to report on this week. What else is going on? I am often asked when the new truck stop and IHOP will open. I don’t have that answer, but I can tell you that the project is moving along. I know it seems like those pancakes have been a long wait. Hopefully, you have used that time to get in shape and drop a few pounds before you hit the blueberry syrup.
