In 1929, at the height of the Roaring 20s, with the nation in an upswing of prosperity, Devine’s new $40,000 modernized school was built on College Avenue! Not only did it have a modern, art-deco look; it was fitted, for the first time, with heating, plumbing, and electricity! That was a far cry from what many of the students had in their homes at the time; so this was a very big improvement for the students of Devine ISD.

Arabian XC 5th @ Islander XC; Stotts, Carr, Rodriguez, Rangel, & Jones prep for Regional

The Arabian Cross Country team left many runners in their wake the annual Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islander Splash. Devine placed 5th out of a whopping 35 complete teams that toed the line to begin the race.


In a race that started with an even 300 runners at the mark, Rachel Stotts, Aimee Carr, Airyanna Rodriguez, Charlee Rangel, and Claire Atkinson were the first five Arabian runners to cross the finish line.
Devine scored 156 points to place fifth. La Vernia was just ahead of the Arabians with 147 points while Pleasanton came after in the sixth spot with 175 points.
Stotts ran an amazing race, finishing in 7th place with a time of 13:13.84. She was less than four seconds behind the sixth place runner.
Carr placed in the top 20 as well as she came in 16th with a time of 13:31, almost ten full seconds ahead of 17th place.
Rodriguez came in at 36th place with a time of 14:06. Rangel was next at 51st place with a time of 14:42 then Jones at 59th place with a time of 14:48.
Angelina Garcia placed 112th with a time of 15:45.

With Devine coming off a loss against the Owls in Hondo last Friday, they try to start a new winning streak of their own while extinguishing Uvalde’s three-game streak of their own. After consecutive victories against Crystal City and Natalia, the Warhorses had to endure the dad-gummed bell-ringing at Barry Field in their most recent game.

SPLISH SPLASH PIRATES TEAM CHAMPS IN CORPUS! Sanchez, Alvarez, Montes-Rodriguez, Reyna, & Obando make a statement

The Pirate Cross Country team made a huge statement to all of Region IV 3A Saturday at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi by winning the Islander Splash. Abel Sanchez, Johnny Rey Alvarez, Bryan Montes-Rodriguez, Diego Reyna, and Brandon Obando took five of the top 16 spots that included a field of 335 competitors.Lytle scored 50 points to earn that top spot followed by runner up Boerne who finished with 74 points and a distant third place La Vernia squad who amassed 159 points.

Devine Varsity Tennis beat SA Kennedy; to play Uvalde

Devine adds four new school holidays for students

TEA has approved Devine ISD’s application for Staff Development Waiver Days. The staff development days will be used for curriculum development and safety training.

Smith honored for announcing Natalia Football for 50 Years,NHS Homecoming Friday

Natalia Alumni and lifelong resident Sam Smith was honored last Friday night for being the “Voice of the Natalia Football Team” for 50 years! The 73-year-old, lifelong fan, former school board member and current City Council Member (25+ years) did the honorary coin flip for the kickoff to Devine vs. Natalia, before the Mustangs presented Smith with a signed helmet honoring his dedication to the program and town.

What Devine school projects can be funded for $11.255 million?


The Devine ISD district has developed a survey to ask the community members to give their input regarding their $11.2 Million dollar bond proposal which the community will vote on this November.
All the projects recommended in the May bond election will not be addressed, but the district will start with the top priority item and work down to get as much accomplished as possible. To view the possible projects go to https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/disdbond

Natalia Homecoming to feature 63rd meeting between Mustangs and PiratesNHS riding eight game win streak

One of the great rivalries of South Texas will battle this coming Friday, as Natalia and Lytle will take the field for the 63rd time since 1933. Lytle is riding high as they enter with a 3-0 mark as the Mustangs enter 0-3 facing three tough challenges in a row. This will also mark the “14th” Legacy Bowl game as Natalia has won eight in a row and holds the overall record 34-26-3 historically.
