A pursuit of illegal immigrants that began in Frio County ended in a crash in the middle of downtown Devine this past Friday, December 10th around 9 am.
The suspect driver, Josie Reyna, 34, took off running and was captured in a resident’s yard on Transportation Drive. Reyna was booked into Frio County Jail and charged with Smuggling of Persons and Evading Arrest with a Motor Vehicle.
“The pursuit began in Frio County, and the suspect exited off Interstate-35 before Devine and came into the city on Hwy 132,” stated Chris Andrews with Devine PD. “As they came to Devine, the suspect vehicle ran a red light and slammed into another vehicle. The disabled vehicles, which were traveling at a high rate of speed, came to a stop near Las Palmas Restaurant on Hwy 132. At that point, the female driver and her sister attempted to flee.”
At least one person in the suspect’s vehicle was transported by EMS in stable condition. The 10 illegal immigrants were also taken into custody by Border Patrol.
The vehicle of the innocent bystander, whose vehicle was struck, was totaled, but they were not injured.
