Ava Sue Word Sostarich, of Devine, was welcomed home by her Lord and Savior on September 23, 2023, at the age of 88. She was born March 9, 1935 in Bandera, Texas to the late Roy Kyle Word and Ila Bess Deason Word.
Survivors include her son, Scott Sostarich (Melanie) of Devine; daughter-in-law, Lynn Sostarich of Spring; grandchildren, Carol Anne Scoggin (David), John Matthew Sostarich (Angela), David Sostarich (Whitney), Nathan Sostarich, Mitchell Kyle Sostarich (Madison), and Allison Sostarich; great-grandchildren, Emma Scoggin, Wyatt Scoggin, Ava Sostarich, Ila Sostarich, John Truett Sostarich, Eli Sostarich, Rowan Sostarich, and Luke Sostarich.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, John Sostarich; her son, John Mark Sostarich; and her sisters, Nina Pierce and Joy Ross; and her brother, John Word.
Sue was the valedictorian of the graduating class of 1952 of Brackett High School in Brackettville, Texas. In 1955 she married the love of her life, John Sostarich of Chicago, Illinois, whom she met at Lackland AFB. They made their home in Lytle, Texas. Both were very active in their community and local church. Sue was a very talented musician and served her Lord Jesus Christ by playing the piano and organ at Lytle FBC and Trinity Baptist Church for many years. She retired in 1997 from Lackland AFB, after 43 years in the Comptroller Division. She was a loving wife, caring mother and grandmother. She loved her Madison Hills Baptist Church family dearly.
Visitation will be Monday, October 2, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at Trinity Baptist Church, 18670 IH 35 Access Road, Lytle, Texas. Interment will follow at Devine Evergreen Cemetery in Devine, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Sue’s memory to Madison Hills Baptist Church or to the church of your choice.
