Devine Tennis plays Uvalde

The Devine High School Tennis team traveled to Uvalde this week to play against the Coyotes on Wednesday, Sept. 11.
DHST team fell short one goal, losing in some tie-breaks and split sets. The final score was 10-7.
Currently, the Arabians are playing with Oakley Malone, the senior captain, due to an injury. This led to changes in the doubles and singles teams. The Arabian team lost the girls doubles matches.
The Warhorse team was undefeated in the boys doubles.

Devine was in a fix last weekend as the Islander Splash was “splished” due to uncertainty of weather conditions on the coast at Corpus Christi. Head Coach Hannah Thompson and her squads ran in Uvalde instead and came away with 2nd place in the small school division.
The Arabians scored 72 points behind champion Pleasanton who had 44.

Lady Mustangs to host Hondo Friday

The Lady Mustangs celebrate a big play in a recent game.

The Natalia Lady Mustang volleyball team will host Hondo this Friday in Natalia at 5:00 p.m.
They opened district last week in Crystal City with a close four game match. They were shy of the first game win at 23-25. Second game ended at 15-25. Bounced back to take the third game 25-21. Fourth game ended 19-25 with Crystal City taking the win 3-1 overall.

8th Colts blank Jourdanton

The 8th Grade Colts A and B teams took wins in their first official action of the season as the A-Team won 12-6 while the B-Team took the 18-0 shutout.
A-Team
According to Coach Michael Sotelo, “The A-team game was to be a ‘David versus Goliath’ match-up as Jourdanton was a team that went undefeated last year as seventh graders.” It was an entertaining game, for sure as it was a nip-and-tuck affair all evening. The Colts found themselves down but definitely not out trailing 6-0, before slaying the Indians with their impressive comeback.
“We were able to get a touchdown from Nate Valle thanks in part to some great blocking by Noah Garcia, Brody Poppe, Troy Guerra, Joe Balderrama, and Jayden Rodriguez that tied the game at six.”

Lytle takes Legacy Bowl over Natalia 30-14

Pirates Davila & Inming, Mustangs Buentello & Peralta named MVPs

Lytle took their second consecutive Legacy Bowl last Friday night on their home turf as they defeated rival Natalia 30-14.  Natalia had an 8-game winning streak in the previous 14 “Legacy Bowl” matchups prior to the Pirates breaking through last season by a 23-14 score.
