Confirmed COVID-19 infections in Atascosa and Frio counties continued to rise over the past week, though at a slower rate. Atascosa County also saw a significant jump in the number of patients who have recovered.

Atascosa County
According to the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), confirmed COVID-19 cases in Atascosa County stood at 442 as of Tuesday, July 21, 386 recoveries and 53 active cases.
“As everyone can see, DSHS is starting to catch up significantly on the reports to me,” Atascosa County EMS Director Don Penny posted on the county’s Emergency Management Office Facebook page on July 21.. “We have many recovered because of time based and test based results. I was told this number of recoveries should increase tomorrow. The numbers are not an error, they are correct.”
Atascosa’s figures are an increase from the 316 confirmed cases reported on July 13, which included 201 active cases and 113 recoveries.
There have been three deaths.
Frio County
COVID-19 cases in Frio County increased at a more measured rate, up to 341 on July 20, a number that includes 218 active cases and 122 recoveries.
The county had 295 confirmed COVID-19 infections on July 13, including 177 active cases and 118 recoveries.
There are also 128 confirmed cases among the detainees at the GEO detention center in Pearsall, including 79 cases that are currently under isolation or monitoring.
Those figures are a sharp increase from July 13, when there were 62 confirmed cases and 15 detainees in isolation or under monitoring.
One death in the county has been attributed to COVID-19.
