Arabians take down Crystal City

The first game out of the break against Hondo got postponed until Monday night, so we ended up taking on Crystal City on the 31st of December. We hadn’t played since Dec 18th so it was good to get back on the court to play. We came away with a big 54-34 win. I really thought our energy was good for not playing in quite some time. We were a little rusty and didn’t shoot the ball real well as a group, but we played really well on the defensive end. We created a lot of turnovers and our posts did a great job of rebounding – especially on the offensive end of the floor. This allowed us to score 16 second chance points which is huge. We were able to work on our press some as well during the game and that led to some really good scoring quarters.
Points: Lacey Shook 7, Kendall Marek 3, Megan Runyan 14, Kadence Yeats 3, Maddie Mata 14, Ally Taylor 13. Rebounds: Shook 5, Marek 3, Yessika Garza 7, Runyan 6, Yeats 3, Mata 6, Mackayla Schnautz 1, Taylor 5, Denise Contreras 1, Cece Martinez 4. Assists: Shook 2, Brianna Bowyer 1, Marek 3, Runyan 1, Yeats 1, Mata 3, Taylor 1. Steals: Bowyer 3, Garza 4, Runyan 4, Yeats 1, Mata 3, Taylor 1. Blocks: Runyan 1. FTP 69%. Q1 12-8, Q2 31-16, Q3 48-24, Q4 54-34.
In all, it was a great win to end 2020. It was great having everybody back and healthy for this game. It was one of the few games this season where we were full strength and had everyone available to play. I really think we can build off of this game and head into 2021, and district play, on a high note. We will face Fox Tech this Friday and Somerset on Tuesday and overall we are 9-5.
