Devine stayed red-hot with wins over non-district opponent San Antonio Homeschool last Tuesday and District 29-4A foe Somerset Friday to improve their record to 23-13 prior to Tuesday night’s clash in the DSAC against Pearsall.

A gigantic District 29 match is set for Friday in Floresville as the Tigerettes and Arabians should both be tied for the top spot at 5-0 in conference play going into this one.
Devine topped the Patriots three sets to none as they won somewhat convincingly 25-16, 25-23, 25-20.
“It was a good non-district win for us and I thought the girls implemented some things that we have been working on in practice,” said Head Coach Leigh Anne McIver. “We are pushing to finish the first half of district undefeated. We definitely have the tools to do that, just got to sharpen them up some.”
The tools were sharpened and then some as the Arabians spanked the Lady Bulldogs three sets to none.
What little hope Somerset had of pulling out a set or two after their narrow 22-25 setback in set one, the Arabians quickly extinguished that faint hope winning the last two sets 25-13, 25-15 to put the ‘W’ on their side of the win column.
“The first set was not our best and we got great effort by Somerset which forced us into a lot of mistakes that we don’t usually make. We allowed Somerset to stick around and have a chance at stealing that first set but the girls shook those mistakes off and corrected them in sets 2 and 3.”
Like Taylor Swift, the Arabians were able to “shake it off” rather quickly as they tore through the final two sets allowing 25 points total.
“The last two sets are probably the best we have played in a while. The girls were talking and making some great plays on defense. I saw movement on the defensive end that we have been practicing each day. It is always great to see what we practice translate to games!”
Shoutout
The Devine community shows tremendous support for all things Arabians. Coach McIver sent along a big shoutout to one of those outstanding supporters.
‘I want to say ‘THANK YOU’ to the Devine Women’s Golf Association for the rally towels!! We love them!!”
