The Arabians defeated Cuero Monday night to claim the Bi-District champion title. They won in 3 games; 25-11, 25-19, and 25-16.
Devine next takes on Rockport-Fullton for the Area crown. The game is set for Thursday, Nov. 2 in Beeville at 7:00 pm.
“We did not play our best tonight,” Coach Leigh Anne McIver said of the Cuero game. “We haven’t played in almost a week and we looked a little rusty, but we did do some very good things tonight.”
Offensively, the Arabians scored 7 aces led by Addie Trojanowski with 4 and followed by Makenna Morales 2, and Amanda Richardson 1. The girls had a total of 31 kills made by Sierra Pompa 11, Trojanowski 9, Friesenhahn 7, Alissa Stehle 2, and Dana Aaron and Caimee Fowler each with 1. There were also 27 assists; Trojanowski 18, Sydney Rendon 7, and Morales 2.
Defensively, Aaron made the only block of the game. The girls had a grand total of 72 digs made by Morales 20, Friesenhahn 12, Rendon 10, Trojanowski 9, Pompa 7, Stehle and Richardson with 4 each, Aaron and Elizabeth Puente with 2 each and Julie Ortiz and Fowler with 1 each. Dana Aaron provided the only block.
“We do need to make sure that we are moving more on defense and passing the ball better in serve receive,” Coach McIver said. “We will get the rust shaken off real quick and get back into our regular groove.”
The girls have some impressive stats for the year. Offensively there have been 227 aces made, led by Trojanowski with 68 and Morales with 47. There have been 1,217 kills made led by Trojanowski with 389, Pompa with 360 and Friesenhahn with 300. There were also 1,111 assists made, led by Trojanowski with 656 and Rendon with 368.
Defensively, the girls had 2,124 digs for the year, led by Morales with 765 and Friesenhahn with 310. There were also 98 blocks for the year led by Friesenhahn with 56.
