The Crystal City Javelinas made the Varsity Arabians work hard for their win on October 2nd. The Arabians won 3-2 in their first district game to go to 5 sets. The Arabians have only had one other game go to 5 sets when they lost to Bandera in August. Starting off strong in the first set 25-18, the Arabians stumbled in sets 2 and 3 losing 17-25 and 19-25. However set 4 was the turning point in the game and they won set 4 and 5, 25-17 and 15-11.
“What a hard fought game on both sides of the net tonight! Even thought we did not play our best in sets 2 and 3, we kept our composure and took care of business in sets 4 and 5. It was a very competitive game and our girls fought hard for the win,” said Coach Leigh Ann McIver.
Sara Moreno served 3 aces in her 34 total serves, Sierra Pompa 3 aces, Alissa Stehle, and Macey Hein 1 each. S. Pompa had 101 attack attempts and 24 kills, Stehle 10, Madison Pike 6, Megan Runyan 4, Hein 3 and Dana Aaron 2. As setter Hein had 39 assists, Stehle 7 and Moreno 2. Hein and Pike each had 2 blocks.
In the 5 sets, the team had a total of 174 total digs. S. Pompa 42 digs, Moreno 26, Gabby Rodriguez 25, Hein 23, Howard 10, Runyan 8, Pike 4, and Aaron 3. The team had 6 reported errors.
