The Devine Arabian golf team achieved its first championship plaque of the 2018 season by winning the Arabian Invitational at the Devine Golf Course Monday, February 26. The Arabians shot a 450 to finish 12 strokes ahead of second place San Antonio Southside and 17 strokes ahead of third place Jourdanton.
Adding drama to the tournament were three players shooting a final score of 101. Devine’s Kayla Busby and Preslee Quisenberry along with Poteet’s Felicia Flores returned to the course at the conclusion of the meet to have a playoff for the first, second, and third place medals.
Busby and Quisenberry tied after replaying hole number one while Felicia was eliminated to take the third place medal. The two Arabians continued their playoff on hole number nine. Busby claimed the first place medal by shooting a bogey while Preslee finished her successful day with a double bogey.
Busby and Quisenberry commented after the competition. “Playing the playoff holes was exciting because it tested my true mental aspect of the game,” stated Busby. Quisenberry said, “Tying for first today was great. I shot my best score in my second tournament of the season so I am excited. I think the playoff pushed Kayla and I to be better and it allowed us to play with pressure.”
