Arabians battle Hondo and Carrizo Springs

The Arabians suffered their second loss in district play last week in overtime against the Owls. They recovered to beat Carrizo Springs on Friday and will push forward to finish the season against Crystal City last night and at home against Pearsall this Friday. As of the win over Carrizo Springs, the Arabians are 22-7 and 4-2.
The Arabians led the entire game until the very end when the Owls worked hard in the second half to tie the game up at 39. Forced to play in overtime, the Arabians could not keep the ball out of Hondo’s hands and lost by two points at 44-46.
“We had a tough loss in Hondo. We played well in the first half and got out to a double digit lead at halftime. In the second half, we struggled to score to maintain that lead. We didn’t shoot the ball well in the second half. We got some good looks but we were unable to capitalize on those opportunities. Hondo did a good job of keeping us out of the paint on offense and they knocked down some big shots to tie it up and send the game into overtime. I didn’t do a good job of getting the kids into attack mode late and that cost us as well. In the end we came up short.” Coach Jim Sessions

“We bounced back and returned to the win column against Carrizo Springs. We got off to a fast start intensity wise, but we didn’t really shoot the ball well in the first half. We got some good shots; we just struggled to make them. We also turned the ball over a bit too much early, but we did a great job late in the 2nd quarter of getting into more into our rhythm late in the 1st half. Defensively we did a pretty good job of speeding Carrizo Springs up in the full court. In the second half the defensive intensity got to them and we turned them over some. We also made some shots and that really changed the momentum of the game. We played a really good 3rd quarter and put the game out of reach. It was a good win.” Coach Sessions
