Arabians are District champs, Warhorses runners-up

Devine Tennis will be taking ten athletes to Corpus Christi on April 19-20, for the Regional Tournament. The Arabians are back to back district champs, while the Warhorses are district Runner-ups.
Arabian Doubles Teams take 1st and 2nd place at district – Lydia Zapata and Scarlett Smith beat Flores/Carroll from Crystal City (6-1, 6-0), Landeros/Short, from Lytle (6-3, 6-3). Chloe Serafin and Malvin Flores beat Ramirez/Talamantez from Carrizo Springs (6-0, 6-0) and Escamilla/Flores from Crystal City (6-2, 6-0). The Arabian teams played an exciting championship match. Zapata/Smith won in 2 sets 6-3, 6-3, earning 1st place, giving Serafin/Flores 2nd place.
Arabian singles players also claimed 1st and 2nd place – Girl’s singles championship belongs to Brooke Runyan. Runyan beat V. Perez of Carrizo Springs.( 6-0, 6-0), I. Lopez of Crystal City (6-0, 6-0) and L. Spannagel of Devine(6-4, 6-1). Lindsey Spannagel won 2nd place, beating K. John of Carrizo Springs (6-0, 6-4), G. Moncada of Crystal City (6-0, 6-3), before losing a hard fought battle to her teammate in the championship match.
Mixed Doubles wins 1st place – Preslee Quisenberry and Toby Ramos had a bye the first round, then beat Castellanos/Galvan from Carrizo Springs (6-3, 6-2). In the Championship match, they came from behind to beat Gallegos/Guerrera from Carrizo Springs (4-6, 6-2, 6-2). Laurel Spannagel/Denton Zuercher also had a bye the first round, then lost to Gallegos/Guerrero from Carrizo Springs (4-6, 5-7). They played and lost their 3rd place match against Castellano/Galvan giving them 4th place.
Warhorses Boys Doubles wins 1st place – Jake Harrell and Ralph Rios had a bye the first round, then beat Alvarado/Martinez of Carrizo Springs (6-0, 6-0), and Serrano/Canela of Crystal City (6-1, 6-0) to claim the championship title in boys doubles. Mason Zenon and Jacob Barron had a tough first round losing in a tie for the 3rd set to Elizondo/Melendez of Pearsall (4-6, 6-4, 7-6).
Warhorse Singles – Caeden Alvarez won his first round to A. Reyes of Carrizo Springs (6-1, 6-0), then lost to the #2 seed, Josue Sanchez of Crystal City (5-7, 0-6). Alvarez lost his 3rd place battle to A. Faz of Crystal City (2-6, 5-7).
