Arabian-Warhorse XC top 10 at Medina Valley

Devine Cross Country runners hit the Medina Valley course this past Saturday morning over in Castroville at the Panther Invitational. The Arabians placed 7th overall in their 16-team race while the Warhorses placed 10th out of 16 teams as well.
Freshman Airyanna Rodriguez led the Arabians finishing 21st of 140 runners with a time of 13:54.1. Charlee Rangel was nip-and-tuck with Rodriguez as she placed 22nd with a near identical 13:54.5 as four-hundredths of a second is all that separated the two.
Senior Yessika Garza was 48th at 14:33, Trinity Black 91st at 16:05, Jilliyn Guajardo 92nd at 16:06, Kendall Marek 93rd at 16:07, and Angelina Garcia 127th at 18:20 also competed for the Arabians.
For the Warhorses, senior Christopher Ortiz led the way placing 50th of 148 competitors with a three-mile time of 19:50. TJ Mendoza was next in for Devine at 69th place and a 20:13 time.
Marcus Espinosa was 71st at 20:27, Kristofer Aguirre 72nd at 20:30, Taylor Hurst 88th at 21:05, Corwin Flores 125th at 23:35, Seth DeLeon 130th at 24:06, and Stephen Culver 137th at 25:52 were the other Warhorse runners.

The 19th Annual FEAST Patriot Cross Country Invitational is this Saturday, September 4. Devine Head Coach Hannah Thompson and assistant Mark Mangold have all high school and middle school teams competing at the same location for the first of several times this season.
The Warhorses and Arabians have already raced three times in 2021 while the Colts and Fillys run for the first time Saturday.
There is a gap between the varsity squads and the middle schools as well as JV races take place during that time. Devine High School runners are all competing on the varsity level until later in the season.
