Arabian golf earns 2nd at Jourdanton Invitational

Devine’s Arabian golf team continues to make progress shooting its best score of the season to finish second place overall at the Jourdanton Invitational on Wednesday, March 6. Devine shot a 415 to finish behind team champion Pleasanton who shot a 388.
Senior Kayla Busby shot a season-low 85 to outpace runner-up Lacey Stevens of Pleasanton by 5 strokes and third place Laken McAda, also from Pleasanton, by seven strokes.
“Being able to get a last minute tournament to play in due to the cancelation in Corpus was a great decision Coach Beaty made for us. I am very exited seeing my teammates accomplishing their goals and improving with every shot,” Kayla stated after her championship performance.
Preslee Quisenberry, like newcomers Sierra Pompa and Sidney Weyel continue to lower their score as they get more practices and tournaments under their belts. Preslee shot a 99 to finish in 4th place overall while Sierra’s 115 and Sidney’s 132 marked great improvement from their last time out on the course.
“I think that with each tournament we are all improving and getting better. Our goal is to win district, and I think that with each tournament and practice we all want to improve in order to perform our best when district comes,” Preslee said after cracking 100 for the first time this season.
“This past tournament was a good warm up before we make our next couple of trips to Uvalde. We are all working hard to get our scores down. I can’t wait to see how well we do at district,” newcomer Sidney said about what lies ahead for the Arabians.
Shelby Spivey had a 114 but missed a few putts that would have drastically lowered her score. Lilly Weyel’s 117 and Paige Williamson’s 119 marked season lows for each of them.
“District is such a short time away but I feel that with all the practice time between now and then that we have a great chance to reach our team goal of a district championship. I am very lucky to play with such a great group of girls and will miss my seniors next year,” stated Lillie about the upcoming district tournament on March 25-26 and about her fellow teammates.
